PETER YIP is perhaps the most headstrong of all the central characters. Despite this stubbornness, he is gentle and kind in demeanor. Shortly after emigrating to the US from Hong Kong as a young man, Peter lost his wife and was left to raise Laura, his autistic daughter, as a single parent.

While Peter has always had the best of intentions for Laura, he can be overprotective and possessive at times. Laura’s dependency provides Peter a purpose and comfort. In many ways, he relies on her just as much as she relies on him. When mother-daughter duo Anna and Dede move in next door, Peter is challenged with the possibility of allowing someone else into his life.
