Sourcing and scouting locations on an indie production can often be the most tedious and unnecessarily complicated tasks – especially since it’s not often a budget for a dedicated location manager.

Which is why many indie productions limit the number of locations, which starts with the writing. Have the story take place in one room. Or one house (as a side note in scouting locations, one of the things we’ve discovered is that a good number of the Airbnb rentals here in Los Angeles seem to end up renting their houses out for shoots more often than for visitors – especially those in bedroom communities and suburbs far from the major attractions).

I certainly knew this principle going in of minimizing locations. But I need to remind myself next time of this!

My next project will take place in one neighborhood. That I do know.
